For Better Skin: Tap Water or Mineral Water?

It's common wisdom that drinking water is good for skin. Proper hydration helps keep skin clear, clean, and glowing. Drinking enough water can actually improve the thickness and density of the skin; both factors are associated with a more youthful, healthy appearance.

While drinking water is definitely a good skin care habit, which kind of water is better: regular old tap water or mineral water?

A team of researchers in France decided to find out. They studied 86 people over four weeks. Half the people drank 2 liters of tap water per day, while the other half drank 2 liters of mineral water per day.

This study was merely exploratory, so more data is needed- but the findings of this study were interesting.

People in the tap water group showed improvements in skin density, but loss of skin thickness. They showed a drop in skin pH, which may have protected them from skin infections. (The more acidic the skin's surface, the less likely you are to break out).

People in the mineral water group showed decreased skin density, and no statistically significant change in skin thickness.

The biggest changes were noted in those people who had not been drinking at least 2 liters of water per day before the study. For these people, their skin plumped up the most.

Researchers conclude that drinking water can have a significant positive impact on the skin, but that the impact differs depending on what type of water is consumed. More research is needed into this area.

In the meantime, I'll be alternating between drinking tap water and mineral water. This may help me get the most skin density with the most skin thickness, both at the same time.

Whatever water you prefer, be sure you drinking at least 2 liters of pure water a day. Your skin will show the difference.
