New Technology for Growing Hair

0

The University of Pennsylvania has been studying a new technology which allows the creation of new hair follicles in adult mammals- the first time this has ever occurred.

The team studying this found that skin has the ability to revert to a primitive or “embryonic” stage during wound healing. This means that to heal a wound, the skin transforms itself into primitive stem cells which migrate to the damaged areas and regenerate as needed.

Through manipulation of genetic pathways, researchers were able to control the regenerative reaction, and created new hair follicles. These created hair follicles performed exactly as regular hair follicles.

Taken together, this means that skin cells can be guided to behave in new ways, which has significant possibilities for improved treatment and wound healing options.

This technology may allow for treatment of follicular disorders such as hair loss and excess hair.

The technology has been licensed by beauty supply manufacturer, Follica, who are studying this method as a way to prevent and treat a variety of hair and skin disorders.

Caucasian Women More Likely to Lose Weight In Groups

0

Most women pursue weight management programs primarily because they want to improve their body shape and weight. Very few women tend to seek out these programs because they are worried about the effects of obesity.

This means that looks and self image are the primary reason women want to lose weight. There is no difference between Caucasian and African American women in this regard.

However, the journal of Ethnicity & Disease reports that this is where the similarity ends.

Caucasian women are more likely to seek out group support and dieting assistance compared to African American women.

More Caucasian women seek out community based/group weight loss programs compared to women of other races.

This is important in terms of behavioral change, as the most effective diets are those which provide a lot of group support and validation. This is why all the diet programs- even the online ones- encourage you to be part of their community.

Research shows that being around others who are losing weight can be a good motivator for personal weight loss. Given that some women don’t pursue group weight loss programs, some changes are needed. Programs like EDiets.com may be a good option, as you can lose weight on your own, but take part in the community if you wish.

Weight management is a crucial part of good health and wellness. It also keeps your skin free of annoying stretch marks!

Coffeeberry a Powerful Skin Antioxidant

0

A new study shows that coffeeberry, one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, promises good things for skin care. In clinical tests, Coffeeberry has been shown to decrease superficial damage from sun exposure and free radicals.

Coffeeberry does this by the fact of being made of four powerful phenol antioxidants. The fact that it contains so many phenols makes coffeeberry stronger and more effective than green tea, vitamin C, vitamin E, pomegranates and blueberries.

Coffeeberry is the primary ingredient in the Revaleskin skin care line, and has been shown to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It has also been shown to reduce skin pigmentation caused from sun overexposure and it has been shown to diminish skin inflammation in less than a month.

The coffeeberry in Revaleskin worked without any allergic reaction or adverse side effects.

Coffeeberry, as it sounds, comes from the fruit of the coffee plant (coffea arabica). This is the same plant which provides the coffee beans for your morning cup of joe. When coffeeberry is harvested before becoming ripe, it retains its peak antioxidant properties. Coffeeberry does not clog pores or irritate the skin.

The Revaleskin line is available at:
